Lil Tjay Undergoes Emergency Surgery in New Jersey
The American singer was shot during a robbery attempt.
Tione Jayden Merritt, professionally known as “Lil Tjay” is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. According to a press release, he was shot several times during a robbery attempt early Wednesday morning (June 22). The incident happened outside a shopping complex in New Jersey.
After midnight on June 22, the Edgewater Police Department responded to a 911 call that reported a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a 22-year-old victim with multiple gun wounds. A second victim, Antoine Boyd, was also found with a single gunshot wound at a nearby Exxon gas station. Both the victims were transported to a local hospital where Lil Tjay reportedly underwent emergency surgery.
The officials reported the shooting occurred when Mohamed Konate tried to rob Lil Tjay, Boyd, and a third person the rapper was with, 24-years-old Jeffrey Valdez. Both Boyd and Valdez were also charged with having an unlawful weapon. Konate was arrested by detectives from Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and NYPD. He’s charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree aggravated assault.
