Apple Announces a Shift from Intel Apple Silicon Based on ARM Architecture

Apple’s WWDC 2020 was a great event not only in terms of products
and their presentation but also in terms of making huge announcements. Apple confirmed
the rumors of their transition from Intel to its own Apple silicon based on ARM
architecture.
“From the beginning, the Mac has always embraced big changes
to stay at the forefront of personal computing. Today we’re announcing our
transition to Apple silicon, making this a historic day for the Mac,” said Tim
Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With its powerful features and industry-leading
performance, Apple silicon will make the Mac stronger and more capable than
ever. I’ve never been more excited about the future of the Mac.”

This is a huge change that Apple will bring in its upcoming macOS
11.0 Big Sur
which is expected to be shipped by the end of this year. Apple
will complete the transition over two years. This shift is going to be a game-changer
for the tech giant as it will provide them the whole control of their product
in terms of its customization and performance.

Apple says that shifting to their processor will improve
performance, power consumption, and battery life of Mac. They are planning to build
a family of MacSoCs in the same way that is available for their iPhone and iPad.
The transition will also make it possible for the tech giant to have a common
architecture for all of its products which will make app development and
optimization convenient for all of the company’s products included in its
ecosystem.

Apart from reduced power consumption, mac with Apple silicon
chips will be able to give better GPU performance which will make it possible
for app developers to create more robust and creative apps and games. Apple
claims that its processor based on ARM architecture includes many custom
technologies including advanced power management, secure enclave, high-performance
GPU, high-performance video-editing, high- efficiency DRAM, etc.

This shift will not only improve the performance of the products
but will also change the position of the tech giant in the tech industry as
they will no longer depend on any other company for their hardware.
