Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah Interview Made Several Disclosures about their Private Life as Royal Couples
Oprah Winfrey invited the royal couple to an exclusive interview. She began the interview by stressing that no topic is off limit and that the couple is not paid for giving this interview. The Royal couple made some bombshell revelations about their reason for distancing themselves from the Beckingham Palace and leaving their official royal roles nearly two years ago. Prince Harry also joined Meghan Markle in the latter half of the interview.
Meghan Markle wore a $4,700 black midi dress designed by Georgio Armani that had few abstracts of white lotus flowers. In many cultures’ lotus flower signifies the concept of rebirth. So former Duchess of Sussex’s choice of wearing a black dress with lotus flowers expresses a lot about how she is doing after distancing herself from the former royal life. The two-hour-long interview that was aired on CBS, made some major revelations in which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex mentioned the reason for leaving their official royal duties, and what they went through after their marriage, including the difficulties faced by Princess Diana. Meghan and Harry Got Married Three Days Before Their Royal Wedding
Meghan and Prince Harry disclosed that they took their vows three days before their royal wedding in a private ceremony that had just the couple and the Archbishop.
“Three days before our wedding, we got married,” Meghan said. “No one knows that. We called the Archbishop and we just said, look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world. But we want our union between us, so the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury.”
“Yeah, just the three of us.” Added Harry.
However, a source close to the couple clarified that the couple did exchange vows before their wedding in a private ceremony but they were legally married during their official ceremony.
Meghan’s First Meeting with the Queen
During her interview, Meghan opened up about her first meeting with the Queen. She recalled that she was going to the Royal Lodge where Prince Andrew and Ferguson live. She learned that the Queen will drop by after attending the church service. Meghan told Oprah that she was shocked when Harry asked her if she knows how to curtsy.
“I thought genuinely that was what happens outside I thought that was part of the fanfare. I didn’t think that was what happens inside. And I said, ‘But it’s your grandmother,’ and he said, ‘It’s the Queen.'”
She learned it quickly from Harry and Fergie and tried her best to curtsy deeply to show her respect.
Meghan admits that despite her problems in joining the royal family, The Queen has always been wonderful to her.
Rumors of Meghan’s Dispute with Kate
Meghan talks about how the British tabloids twisted the news and published a false narrative of her feud with her sis-in-law Kate. She openly talked about her relationship with Kate and the false story of how she made Kate cry.
“No. [I didn’t make Kate cry],” she said. “No, no, the reverse happened. And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing and she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone. To just take accountability for it.
She further added it was shocking for her that, “six, seven months after our wedding, the reverse of that would be out in the world [the story suggesting Meghan made Kate cry]. I would’ve never wanted that to come out about her ever even though it had happened. I protected that from ever being out in the world. A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining—yes, the issue was correct about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings, and I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding that it didn’t make sense to not be just doing what everyone else was doing, which was trying to be supportive, knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot.”
There wasn’t a confrontation, and I actually think it’s…I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details of that because she apologized and I’ve forgiven her,” Meghan continued. “What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do but that happened to me and the people that were a part of my wedding going to my comms team, saying, I know this didn’t happen. I don’t have to tell them what actually happened, but I can at least go on the record saying, ‘She didn’t make her cry.”
Meghan’s interview gave a clear hint of how she faced difficulties related to racism. She disclosed that several conversations took place with her and Harry about how dark their newborn baby would be and that he will not get any title and security. She added that “the first member of color in this family isn’t being titled in the same way as other grandchildren would be.”
Meghan didn’t disclose who was having this conversation with her as she thought that it would be very damaging to them.
Prince Harry joined his wife Meghan Markle in the latter half of the interview and appreciated her by saying that, “Without question, she saved me.” Prince Harry admitted that he had been “trapped” in the royal family and would not be able to leave if he didn’t meet Meghan. He also added that his father and brother remain trapped in that institution. He also talked about his mother Princess Diana, how she faced problems alone all those years back, while it has been extremely tough for the two of them, but at least they have each other.
Meghan also disclosed how her mental health deteriorated after joining the Royal family and that she had suicidal thoughts while she was expecting her firstborn son Archie.
