Snapchat Launches TikTok Competitor “Spotlight”
Today Snapchat launches a new in-app feature called Spotlight and invites all its users to earn a share of more than $1 million every day, through the end of the year 2020, by showing their creativity. This feature is very similar to the famous apps TikTok and Instagram Reels.
The company allows its users to either submit their most creative content in the Spotlight or to just sit back and enjoy their favorites. For submitting the snaps, the users must be above 16 years of age and must follow the content guidelines and conditions provided by the company.
As the name suggests, the algorithm of this feature will highlight the most creative and enjoyable content, without considering who created it. It can be from a snap chatter with a big following or any newbie. The company explained this in one of its blog posts,” We built Spotlight to be a place where anyone’s content can take center stage – without needing a public account, or an influencer following.”
Considering the taste of the user, the content algorithm will bring the most suitable and right content the user would be interested in. Snaps are ranked by examining various factors including the watch-time, whether it is favorited or shared with friends. Some negative factors are also considered, as to how quickly the snaps are skipped while watching.
Users can earn if they are above 16-years of age or if they have parental consent for earning. The videos with the most unique views in a given day (calculated using Pacific Time) will get a reward as compared to the other videos submitted on the same day. It means that if your snap will go viral you can earn a big chunk from the $1 million pot as the user will continue to earn from that video on multiple days. The company will take measures to combat fraud and ensure authentic engagements with the snaps.
Spotlight is currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France, with more countries coming soon.
